Intresting Facts in Geology

 Intresting facts in Geology

Facts behind eye of Sahara:

World's largest has a eye like structure which is actually formed by differential erosion by wind.Eye of sahara also called as the Richat structure is prominent circular feature in the Sahara's Adrar plateau, Northwest Africa. The Richat structure is a highly symmetrical and deeply eroded dome, of 40 kilometer in diameter exposing sedimentary rock on layers which appear as concetric rings. The sedimentary rock exposed in this dome ranges in ages from late proterozoic within the center of of the dome of Ordovician sandstone around its edges.

Facts in ghats of South India:

Almost 80% of the rainfall in India is contributed by the monsoons, these monsoons are maintained by mountain ranges in coastal planes. Such as Western Ghats and Eastern Ghats.
Western Ghats are formed during the breakup of gondwana some 150 million years ago, they are continous ranges strech of 1600km along India's western coast. Eastern Ghats are a discontinous range of mountain along India's eastern ghats. they are older than the Western Ghats. The coast on the western side of India is called as active margin, where more Tectonic activities takes place. There are more than 20 santuaries and national parks of the Eastern Ghats.

Facts of Himalayas:

It is mountain range in Asia separating the plains of the Indian subcontinent from the Tibetan Plaeteau. The range has many of Earth's highest peaks, including Mount Everest. Tethys sediments were lifted by the subduction of the Indian tectonic plate under Eurasian plate.  The Himalayas consist of parallel mountains ranges. The arkan yoma highlands in Myammar and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the Bay Bengal were also formed as a result of this collision. The Himalayas range is one of the youngest ranges on the planet.During upper cretaceous, about 70 million years ago, the north moving Indo-Australian plate was moving at about 15 cm per year.

Facts behind Ring of fire:

The presence of volcanic belt surrounding  the pacific plate which was  first observed in middle of 19th century , It contains 425 active volcanoes and that gives the feel of firing around the pacific oceans that is why is called as Ring of fire. The ring of fire is direct result of plate tectonics, the movement and collision of lithospheric plates.it is a large 40,000 km horsehoe shape it is associated with a nearly continuous series of oceanic trenches. More than 75% of the world's active and dormant volcanoes, About 90% of the world's earthquake occurs at this place.

 Facts of Bengal fan:

The river that starts from the top of the mountain will run with the maximum velocity on the slope of the mountain when it reach the plain surface there is the drop in the velocity of water and due to this the deposition of sediments takes place in the plane surface and this leads to the formation of fans, such formations of fans in ocean floors are called as submarine fans. The Bengal fan also known as Ganges Fan is the largest submarine fan in the earth. The fan is about 3000 km long, 1,430 km wide with a maximum thcikness of 16.5 km. The fan resulted from the uplift and erosion of the Himalayas and the Tibetan plateau produced by collision between the Indian plate and Eurasian plate.
